{"id":268,"date":"2012-04-12T04:42:09","date_gmt":"2012-04-12T04:42:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.unitedmarine.net\/blog\/?p=268"},"modified":"2012-06-27T18:29:10","modified_gmt":"2012-06-27T18:29:10","slug":"a-day-in-the-life-of-the-uscg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unitedmarine.net\/blog\/index.php\/2012\/04\/12\/a-day-in-the-life-of-the-uscg\/","title":{"rendered":"A day in the life of the USCG"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. Coast Guard is one of the military services for the United States; law enforcement for the waterways, lakes, rivers, coastal waters, and high seas.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/secure.unitedmarine.net\/boating_safety\/Boat_safety.asp\">Boating safety<\/a> is their top priority.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.unitedmarine.net\/blog\/index.php\/2012\/04\/12\/a-day-in-the-life-of-the-uscg\/uscgsealcolor\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-270\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-270\" title=\"USCGSealcolor\" src=\"http:\/\/www.unitedmarine.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/USCGSealcolor.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.unitedmarine.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/USCGSealcolor.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.unitedmarine.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/USCGSealcolor-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On any given day, the USCG around the country gets called out.\u00a0 And whether it is to intercept more than a ton of cocaine, or rescuing a family hanging on the side of their overturned boat off the coast of Miami, the USCG is here to protect, keep Americans safe and secure.<\/p>\n<p>The Coast Guard reports that on an average day, they:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Saves 12 lives<\/li>\n<li>Responds to 64 search &amp; rescue cases<\/li>\n<li>Keeps 842 pounds of cocaine off the streets<\/li>\n<li>Services 116 buoys &amp; fixes 24 discrepancies<\/li>\n<li>Screens 720 commercial vessels &amp; 183,000 crew &amp; passengers<\/li>\n<li>Issues 173 credentials to merchant mariners<\/li>\n<li>Investigates 13 marine accidents<\/li>\n<li>Inspects 68 containers<\/li>\n<li>Inspects 29 vessels for compliance with air emissions standards<\/li>\n<li>Performs 28 safety &amp; environmental examinations of foreign vessels<\/li>\n<li>Boards 13 fishing boats to ensure compliance with fisheries laws<\/li>\n<li>Responds and investigates 10 pollution incidents<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Besides being the law enforcement agency on the water, the USCG is here to promote boating safety, keeping you and your family safe while enjoying your day on the water.<\/p>\n<p>The USCG has made available many different aids to be utilized by boaters.\u00a0 They have developed guides to make staying safe on the water easier to do, such as:\u00a0 free vessel safety checks \u2013 performed by approved USCG Examiners; a list of <a href=\"https:\/\/secure.unitedmarine.net\/boating_safety\/Required_Boating_Safety_Equipment.asp\">required boating safety equipment<\/a>; an easy to follow and fill out <a href=\"https:\/\/secure.unitedmarine.net\/boating_safety\/FloatPlans.asp\">Float Plan<\/a> for the boater and the Boat Emergency Guide for the person entrusted with that float plan; they also work with other agencies to reduce the incident of alcohol related accidents and are a part of the event \u201cOperation Dry Water.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even if you find yourself being \u201cpulled over\u201d by the USCG, you can bet it is for good reason and you will be better off and safer for it.\u00a0 Their objective is to keep you \u2013 the boater \u2013 your family, friends and investment safe.<\/p>\n<p>Utilizing all the USCG has to give to make the time you spend on the water safe and fun, is their job and like your <a href=\"https:\/\/secure.unitedmarine.net\">boat insurance<\/a> company, they want what is best for you.<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. Coast Guard is one of the military services for the United States; law enforcement for the waterways, lakes, rivers, coastal waters, and high seas.\u00a0 Boating safety is their top priority.
