Cruising?\u00a0 Maybe some fishing?<\/p>\n<p>Whatever water activities you have in mind for the day, be prepared.\u00a0 Keep everyone <a href=\"https:\/\/secure.unitedmarine.net\/boating_safety\/Boat_safety.asp\">safe<\/a> by making sure your boat is ready, registered, and<a href=\"https:\/\/secure.unitedmarine.net\"> insured<\/a> first before doing any planning.\u00a0 Once those things are behind you and all your <a href=\"https:\/\/secure.unitedmarine.net\/boating_safety\/Required_Boating_Safety_Equipment.asp\">safety equipment<\/a>, navigational tools, and toys are on board let the planning begin.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unitedmarine.net\/blog\/index.php\/2012\/05\/03\/planning-for-a-day-on-the-water\/imagebot\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-314\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-314\" title=\"imagebot\" src=\"http:\/\/www.unitedmarine.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/imagebot-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Depending on what you and your family\/friends have in mind for the day will mean the difference between making sure there is a fishing pole and bait for every person or sets of skis and rope, snorkeling mask and fins, or just sun screen (although the sun screen should be on board no matter the activity.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unitedmarine.net\/blog\/index.php\/2012\/03\/27\/reqd-boat-safety-equipment\/wearit_logo-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-153\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-153\" title=\"wearit_logo\" src=\"http:\/\/www.unitedmarine.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/wearit_logo1.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>And, it goes without saying &#8211; even though we have said it many times here and will probably say it many more &#8211; no matter what water fun you have planned it is necessary to have a <a href=\"https:secure.unitedmarine.net\/boating_safety\/life_jackets.asp\">life jacket <\/a>on board for each passenger and a floatation device such as a ring, as well.<\/p>\n<p>Once you are loaded up and are on the water headed for the perfect spot, your marine GPS will help get you there and back &#8211; oh and make sure to check your charts.\u00a0 The navigational charts on board will show where you <em><strong>cannot<\/strong><\/em> swim, fish, ski, etc.,\u00a0 That <a href=\"https:\/\/secure.unitedmarine.net\/boating_safety\/Boating_Safety_Courses.asp\">Boating Safety Course<\/a> you took sure came in handy teaching you how to read your charts, know the &#8220;Rules of the Road,&#8221; and what all the signs and lights mean.\u00a0 Whew, just think how much safer the passengers, you, and your boat are just by you taking that course.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unitedmarine.net\/blog\/index.php\/2012\/03\/25\/tethered-vs-autotether\/autotether\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-110\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-110\" title=\"autotether\" src=\"http:\/\/www.unitedmarine.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/autotether-300x195.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"180\" height=\"117\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.unitedmarine.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/autotether-300x195.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.unitedmarine.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/autotether.jpg 310w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 180px) 100vw, 180px\" \/><\/a>Be sure to have your lanyard on, or the wireless Autotether attached to those on board.\u00a0 If something were to happen, if you or another passenger were to go overboard these items would shut down the boat so no one will get bumped or bruised &#8211; other than perhaps their ego.<\/p>\n<p>Also, remember to always have a lookout, someone designated to keep their eyes on the surroundings and if there is\u00a0 skiing or tubing going on, they should be watching the person at the end of the rope.\u00a0 Your designated lookout is there for the safety of everyone on board and for the other boats in the area.\u00a0 You, as the operator of the boat, cannot do everything at once and would you really want to?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unitedmarine.net\/blog\/index.php\/2012\/05\/03\/planning-for-a-day-on-the-water\/imagebotsnorkel2-3\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-326\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-326\" title=\"imagebotsnorkel(2)\" src=\"http:\/\/www.unitedmarine.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/imagebotsnorkel22-125x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"125\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Planning and enjoying a safe and fun day on the water is why we have boats to begin with, so play by the rules, wear your life jackets, pack finger friendly foods &#8211;
