{"id":64,"date":"2012-03-21T20:17:07","date_gmt":"2012-03-21T20:17:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.unitedmarine.net\/blog\/?p=64"},"modified":"2012-06-27T18:31:54","modified_gmt":"2012-06-27T18:31:54","slug":"boating-tips-for-spring-launch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unitedmarine.net\/blog\/index.php\/2012\/03\/21\/boating-tips-for-spring-launch\/","title":{"rendered":"Boating Tips for Spring Launch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Boat season is here.\u00a0 It is time to get your boat ready for anything and be prepared in case anything happens.<\/p>\n<p>In an attempt to make your first launch of the season an easy, <a href=\"https:\/\/secure.unitedmarine.net\/boating_safety\/Boat_safety.asp\" target=\"_blank\">safe<\/a> and uneventful one, we have put together the following check list of tasks which should be taken care of before you put your boat in the water.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Make sure your registration is up to date and your <a href=\"https:\/\/secure.unitedmarine.net\/\">boat insurance<\/a> has been purchased or renewed. Protecting your investment is always a good idea for you and your family.<\/li>\n<li>Do a walk-around of your boat.\u00a0 Check for any damage to the propellers including dings, cracks, being warped or out of alignment.\u00a0 Not only could that cause a problem for your drive train but it will impact your gas mileage as well.<\/li>\n<li>Check the hull for chipping, peeling or blistering.\u00a0 If everything looks good, give your boat a good washing.<\/li>\n<li>Get your engine ready by changing the fuel and oil filters, change the oil.\u00a0 You may want to put some additive in your gas tank to remove any moisture that has gotten in during its winter hibernation and then fill it up with gas.<\/li>\n<li>Check fittings, lubricate where needed.<\/li>\n<li>Check hoses, cables, and belts making sure they are tight and not brittle, which can happen during the w<a href=\"http:\/\/www.unitedmarine.net\/blog\/index.php\/2012\/03\/21\/boating-tips-for-spring-launch\/marine-battery\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-66\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-66\" title=\"marine battery\" src=\"http:\/\/www.unitedmarine.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/marine-battery-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.unitedmarine.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/marine-battery-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.unitedmarine.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/marine-battery.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>inter months.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure your battery is charged.\u00a0 Just like a car battery you can take it to most any auto parts store and they will check the charge.\u00a0 It is always a good idea to check your connections, clean them with a wire brush.<\/li>\n<li>Whatever your favorite activities are while boating, make sure you have all the equipment you need.\u00a0 Tow ropes for skiing, fishing gear accessories.<\/li>\n<li>Check your <a href=\"https:secure.unitedmarine.net\/boating_safety\/life_jackets.asp\" target=\"_blank\">life jackets<\/a>. The U.S. Coast Guard requires there be a life jacket for every person on board and it should be in good condition.
