In just a few weeks, it’ll be time to head south for arguably the biggest consumer boat show experience in the world — not to mention warm weather and world-class food and nightlife. Here are a few facts about the Miami Boat Show that you might not know, plus some “musts” to put on your list if you plan to be there.

The “Miami Boat Show” actually consists of four exhibitions that take place over the same extended weekend, from February 14th to 18th this year. The largest is held at the Miami Beach Convention Center in South Beach, with more than 2,100 exhibitors in 2.5 million square feet of space. This is where to go for owner-operated boats, engines, electronics and accessories galore. Must: Head to Lincoln Road Mall, two blocks south, for lunch at one of the many laid-back sidewalk cafes.

The New Yacht & Power Boat Show pulls into Sea Isle Marina on the inland side of Biscayne Bay. This in-water exhibition lets you walk the docks to board a selection of custom motor yachts, saltwater fishing boats, sport cruisers, trawlers and high performance boats. Must: Hit the Demo Dock for sea trial; it could be your only chance for a free boat ride during your weekend of shopping.

If you’re a stalwart blow-boater, Strictly Sail at Miamarina at Bayside is the place for you. The show features a selection of boats both in the water and on land and ranging in size from 6 to almost 100 feet, for sailors of every age, ability, taste and budget. Must: Enjoy some “edutainment,” with interactive seminars and DIY programs led by renowned sailing experts and industry pros from around the world.

The Miami Yacht & Brokerage Show transforms a mile-long strip of Miami Beach into a phenomenal display of yachts and superyachts. The in-water exhibition covers more than 1.2 million square feet along the Indian Creek Waterway and features some 500 new and pre-owned vessels valued at more than a billion dollars. Best of all — and unlike the other events — this one is free. Must: After the show, stroll down Collins Avenue and stop in at some of the world’s most high-end hotels, then continue on to Ocean Drive for a taste of the famous South Beach nightlife!

  1. Mi Noethiger says:

Both environmental and animal rights factions have criticized bass fishing in recent years for being both harmful to native species and cruel to the bass themselves. Most bass are no longer caught for sustenance, but simply as a sport, and largemouth bass are generally let go after the catch..:
