PWC Safety Regulations - Connecticut

Any person operating a personal watercraft in the state of Connecticut must have completed a safety course and possess a Certificate of Personal Watercraft Operation (CPWO).

For those persons under the age of 16, there must be someone 18 or older who possesses the CPWO. If the operating is 12 – 16 years of age and has completed the course to obtain the CPWO, they can operate a PWC on their own, but the Department of Environment Protection recommends someone 18 or older accompany them anyway.

Connecticut also recognizes certificates from New York, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island for use upon their waters.

The USCG and your PWC insurance company will expect you to follow federal and Connecticut state regulations.
