Children's Life Jackets - Massachusetts

In Massachusetts, children under the age of 12 must wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved life jacket or life vest while on a boat which is underway.

The life vest should be a TYPE I, II, III, or V USCG approved life jacket, be in good condition, and fit the child properly. The only exception to this rule is when the child is below deck.

While it is up to the parents of the child whether or not he/she wears the life jacket, the USCG and your boat insurance company will expect you to comply with the Massachusetts state boating safety regulations.
