Children's Life Jackets - New York

In the state of New York, children under the age of 12, are required to wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved life jacket or life vest at any time they are underway on a boat which is 65 feet or less.

The life vest or life jacket should be U.S. Coast Guard approved and should always be in good condition and fit the wearer properly. The exception to this rule is while the child is in a fully enclosed cabin.

It is the responsibility of the parent to ensure the child's safety and the USCG and your boat insurance company will expect you to comply with the state boating safety regulations.
