PWC Safety Regulations - Iowa

In the state of Iowa, in order for a child between 12 and 17 years of age to operate a personal watercraft, they must successfully complete a boat safety course as stated in the Iowa Mandatory Boater Education Requirement.

People under 18 may operate a PWC without being certified as long as there is a responsible adult over the age of 18 on board the craft with them.

The number of people on a PWC must not go over the number recommended by the craft’s manufacturer and that is including anyone being towed.

Personal watercrafts are not to be operated between sunset and sunrise and must follow the same water safety laws as those operating a boat.

Your PWC insurance company and the USCG will expect you to follow these and federal regulations.
